About the Festival


CultureShock Community Arts Festival is a FREE all-ages multi-day festival hosted by UrbanArts Community Arts Council each August in Central West Toronto. CultureShock is a community-driven festival that celebrates and showcases the artistic vibrancy of our community and the diverse cultural backgrounds of local residents within York-South Weston. In it’s 11th year running, CultureShock provides a forum and a space for artists from the area and across the city to showcase their talent and craft, including dance, music, visual arts, theatre and spoken word.



THU AUG 11

OFFICIAL KICK-OFF

A reception with drinks & appetizers, the CultureShock Festival kick-off will feature an intimate music & spoken word performance, as well as an exhibition of artwork & photography from the “Rustic Mosaic Project”.

Location: 19 John St. (Weston Rd./Lawrence Ave.) Doors open at 6:30PM

• Children talent show (featuring 5 local summer camps)

• Live music, cultural dance and spoken word on stage

• Maker Lab (interactive art)

LIVE PERFORMANCES

Enjoy live performances by amazing local artists including musicians, vocalists, dancers, poets and theatre performers. Our diverse line-up will be sure to SHOCK your senses with vibrant energy and home-grown flavour! 

MARKETPLACE

The CultureShock Marketplace highlights very talented small, local, independent artisans and entrepreneurs. The festival will feature a variety of vendors offering merchandise that is sure to delight all who visit!

MAKER LAB

Participate in our exciting interactive arts and cultural workshops in a variety of mediums and genres including theatre, dance, music, painting, bead-making and more! Fun for the whole family!

COMMUNITY FAIR

Discover York South-Weston focused community service and resource providers. Meet organizations providing services like youth employment, arts, wellness, and family services.

KIDS ZONE

Co-presented by our friends at the Weston Village BIA, CultureShock Community Arts Festival offers a fantastic Kids Zone with a bouncy castle, pedal boats and inflatable slides for children of all ages. The Kids Zone will run on Saturday August 13th from 1:00PM to 8:00PM at Little Avenue Memorial Park and is absolutely free of charge

CultureShock Community Arts Festival is one of the signature events in ARTS in the Parksa free annual outdoor initiative that brings arts events to parks across Toronto this summer. Arts in the Parks encourages community building. enjoyment of local parks, and offer events for residents and tourists of all ages. This new initiative of the Toronto Arts Foundation and the Toronto Arts Council, being presented in partnership with City of Toronto Parks, Forestry & Recreation, Arts & Culture Services, and Park People
